Office repainting out of hours

A converted townhouse office has rooms and a staircase that were not designed around a modern working day. We plan repainting for academic, publishing, charity and professional firms around the spaces they can release, including agreed out-of-hours painting to keep the working day available.

Start with the working room list

Separate meeting rooms, desk areas, reception, kitchens and circulation spaces. Identify the rooms needed for calls or appointments, the equipment that can move and the items only the occupier may handle. A repaint becomes easier to programme when each room has a responsible contact and a clear release time.

Agree what out of hours involves

Evening or weekend painting needs arrangements for entry, alarms, lighting and the return of the room. Establish those details with the building's authorised contact. Noisy preparation remains subject to Camden's permitted hours and any required authorisation; an office being closed does not itself permit disruptive work at night.

Respect the townhouse beneath the office

Retained doors, mouldings and window joinery should be recorded separately from later partitions and fitted furniture. Where the property is listed, the internal treatment needs the same careful review as the frontage. Consent support is available through our sister company, Hampstead Chartered Surveyors & Building Consultancy, with a separately agreed professional instruction.

Keep confidential material with its owner

The occupier should decide how files, screens and personal belongings are secured before a room is released. Agree the protection and movement of furniture without treating desks as available storage. Identify any room that must remain locked and a contact for unexpected access questions, especially where work is scheduled after the staff have left.

Make the morning handback explicit

Discuss ventilation, drying requirements, reinstatement and inspection before committing a room to a particular morning's use. A floor-by-floor sequence may be appropriate, but it must preserve the shared stair and entrance arrangements. Keep a room record so the next stage begins with the same colour references and a clear account of what has been completed.
